I took this photo from above the Sublime Point Lookout, just down the road from my house. Weeks later the tiny strip of Blue Mountains villages between Penrith and Lithgow was sandwiched between two terrifying megafires and cloaked in choking smoke for days on end, with firefighters defending properties on the ground and helicopters and air tankers waterbombing the fire fronts from the air to keep us safe.
